5/27 Goodbye Post

To all those students I won't see again next year -
I will miss you! I wish you peace and happiness as you move forward. Best of luck as you continue your education at another school. You all will do well!

To all my students -
I wish you a blessed summer! I've missed you all these last few months. It has been difficult on all of us. Teaching music is part of why I live and breathe.

Here is a goodbye song and a blessing all in one. Take care and I'll see some of you again in the fall! ❤

5/26 Fun Quarantine Song

I found this cute song on YouTube. Any of you who have watched "The Little Mermaid" will recognize this song. It's "Under the Sea" but some words have changed to make it "In Quarantine." Enjoy!

5/22 Fabulous Friday 2nd & 3rd Grade Music Lesson

It's Friday! Woo-hoo!
Sorry, I didn't record myself for today's post. It's been a busy week for me! I have been watching this teacher's YouTube videos during the quarantine and I've been getting lots of ideas. I think this song and activity are a lot of fun - and challenging! Good luck!!

Can you believe I'm STILL getting comments without names??

5/21 Thoughtful Thursday

Happy Thursday!
I have 3 videos for you to watch today.

1. I Love You, Lord - the words are your prayer today.

2. We Are the World
Here is some information about the history of this song (quoted from Wikipedia):
"We Are the World" is a charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. With sales in excess of 20 million copies, it is the eighth best-selling physical single of all time.
The song was released on March 7, 1985, as the first single from the album. A worldwide commercial success, topping music charts throughout the world and becoming the fastest-selling U.S. pop single in history. The first ever single to be certified multi-platinum, "We Are the World" received a Quadruple Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The promotion and merchandise aided the success of "We Are the World" and raised over $63 million (equivalent to $147 million today) for humanitarian aid in Africa and the US.
Following the devastation caused by the magnitude 7.0 M earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010, a remake of the song by another all-star cast of singers was recorded on February 1, 2010. Entitled "We Are the World 25 for Haiti", it was released as a single on February 12, 2010, and proceeds from the record aided survivors in the impoverished country.
In March 2020, Richie suggested that a third remake should be made to communicate a message of global solidarity during the COVID-19 pandemic and raise funds for aid efforts.

3. We Are the World/Heal the World by the Voices of Hope Children's Choir (Virtual Choir)
This is a remake of the original "We Are the World" plus part of another song "Heal the World."

If you watch all 3 videos (tell me so in your comment) you get credit for 2 music classes!

5/20 Wonderful Wednesday Recorder Performance

Happy Wednesday! Since some of you have handed in your recorders already, I thought it was best to just have you watch a recorder performance. This group is called "Woodpeckers" and they are playing a piece by Vivaldi. It appears the recorders used are 2 alto recorders, 1 tenor and 1 bass. The recorder you are learning to play is the soprano. Notice how all these recorders are bigger than the soprano recorder? I think this performance is fun to listen to and watch.

This is going to be my last Monday post. The school year is almost over and next Monday is Memorial Day so there isn't "school" that day. As always on Mondays, it's time to get up and move!

And, here's another video of my family and friends singing "I Saw the Light." If you have an instrument nearby play along!

5/15 Fabulous Friday 2nd & 3rd Grade Lesson

It's finally Friday!
There's only 1 Friday of school left at St. Edward's and 2 at MPB. It's hard to believe that this school year is almost over.

Today you'll be singing, clapping and playing instruments to "Family Reunion." I used a couple different video formats to make this one video. I think it turned out pretty good! I hope you enjoy this fun song today!

5/13 Wonderful Wednesday 4th & 5th Grade Recorder Lesson

Happy Wednesday boys and girls! Take a listen to the US Navy Band performing an interesting arrangement of "When the Saints Go Marching In." "When the Saints Go Marching In" is the blue belt song in Recorder Karate. Since we're almost to the end of the school year, you will have to return your recorders - remember they belong to St. Eds (or MPB - depending which school you go to). The recorders must be returned by the last drop-off date or anytime before. Make sure your name is on the recorder.

Next, take a listen to a recorder quartet play "Let It Go."

5/12 Terrific Tuesday PreK-1st Grade Music Lesson

I have a new song for you today! Those of you from St. Eds probably remember Eddie and Frankie, right? This song is about our precious guinea pigs who have been living at Mrs. Cowart's house since the "Safer at Home" order. They look happy and healthy, but I'm sure they're missing all of us!

Here's a fun story to sing along with.

5/11 Movement Monday

Happy Monday!
Did you all do something nice for your mom yesterday?

Today I have 2 videos for you. The first is "God Is Watching." Get up and move! Some of you, especially choir members, might remember this one.

I found another musical family. This is the Clark family. During the Quarantine they have been learning a new song each day. They practice it several times during the day and then they record themselves and put the video on YouTube. I especially enjoy watching the little girl play the egg maraca and dance. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

5/7 Thoughtful Thursday

Hi Boys and Girls! Sorry this is so late today.
I found a video of a family singing, "Sanctuary." The words you sing are your prayer today.

This video is a song called "Rescuer" by the group Rend Collective. While the song is pretty cool, what do you think of the strange items in the video? What was the strangest thing you saw?

5/5 Terrific Tuesday PreK-1st Grade Music Lesson

Happy Tuesday! I hope you're ready for another new song. Today I'm singing a song about my other cat, Honey. She's a little cat - she's half the size of Mo - and she's scared of EVERYTHING!!! What do you think Honey is scared of? I came up with a lot of things that she's scared of. It was pretty easy because like I said, she's scared of everything! Enjoy singing "Scaredy Cat" with me!

And, I decided to share a book with you today also. This is "Inch By Inch," sung by John Denver. I miss reading books in music class. Enjoy!
